Samsung‘s upcoming foldables, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 3, are said to come cheaper than their predecessors. We are expecting a price cut of up to as high as $400 (~20 percent) this year. Now a fresh leak has tipped the exact pricing for the former. According to tipster Tron (@FrontTron), the Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G will cost $1,249 for the variant with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage capacity.
This pricing makes the phone $200 (approx. 14 percent) cheaper than last year’s model, which is more or less in line with the earlier rumors. The original Galaxy Z Flip costed $1,450 at launch with the same memory configuration (LTE model costed $1,380).
Both LTE and 5G models last year came in a single 8GB+256GB variant. And by the looks of it, the same will be the story this year as well. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G may not come in any other memory configurations either. There are reports of an LTE model as well, though. This device is said to cost even lesser.
It’s unclear whether the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will get a similar treatment in terms of price though. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 debuted in September last year with a price tag of $1,999 for the base variant. A similar (around 15 percent) price cut means we could have the foldable for about $1,700 this year. That pricing would make it a compelling proposition.
The Galaxy Z Flip 3 tipped to cost significantly lesser than its predecessor
Samsung lowered the launch price of its Galaxy S21 flagships by $200 across the lineup this year. This strategy helped boost the sales of the new devices. The company is now seemingly going the same route with its foldables as well, at least with the Galaxy Z Flip 3.
Despite a price cut, the new foldable is expected to bring plenty of improvements to the table. A larger, 1.9-inch Super AMOLED cover display, a 120Hz refresh rate for the main 6.7-inch foldable display, newer and faster Snapdragon 888 processor, and a more durable build quality are some of the changes or improvements we might be looking at. With Samsung expected to host a Galaxy Unpacked event in the first half of August, there’s not much to go before things go official though. We will likely hear more about the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3, as well as the Galaxy Watch 4 series and the Galaxy Buds 2, in the coming weeks.
